Position Vacancy: Program Director, Dog Guides Canada

Position Title: Program Director

Duties:

  • Overseeing all areas directly relating to the provision of high quality dogs and service to all clients.
  • Responsible for breeding, foster puppy program, training in all five programs and client services including assessments, training and aftercare support.
  • Responsible for organisational development of staff.
  • Liaise with all levels within the organisation to plan goals, service and standards.
  • Establish performance goals and be responsible for the overall leadership and development of head trainers and staff.
  • Develop superior relationships with key constituents and stake holders
  • Implement proactive communications and information-sharing practices
  • Create a culture that rewards staff by developing innovative service, team building and recognition strategies
  • Standardise staff development and training protocols
  • Monitor and develop breeding and foster puppy programs
  • Ensure constant supply of high quality dogs to achieve training goals

Qualification requirements:

  • Certified Guide Dog Mobility Instructor from an accredited International Guide Dog Federation school.
  • Must have minimum 10 years post qualification experience with a proven track record in senior management roles.
  • Proven understanding of dog breeding management within a Dog Guide organisation.
  • Experience of managing foster puppy and training programs
  • Experience or background in basic veterinary care
  • Very strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated organisational skills
  • A valid driver’s license
  • French language skills would be an asset
  • Demonstrated strong verbal/written communications, analytical and problem solving skills.


Available: As soon as possible

Location: Oakville, Ontario. Also Breslau location

Schedule: Mon – Fri, 8.30am – 4.30pm, some evening and weekend work

Salary: $ 75 000 + depending on experience and ability .Benefits program available after 3 months

  Volunteer Opportunities  
     
 
The clients, staff and dogs appreciate your interest in volunteering for Dog Guides. Most volunteer positions are available during business hours Monday to Friday. Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older to participate in most volunteer positions. Limited volunteer opportunities are available for high school students, although there are occasionally co-op placements.
 
 

Foster Puppy Parents – to raise a future Dog Guide for its first year

Office Support – letter folding, mailings, data entry, filing and various other duties (days & evenings)

Kitchen Assistant – assist with meal preparation for clients and for special events (days, evenings & weekends)

Kennel Assistant – visit, play and groom Dog Guides in training. * Must be 18 years of age or older.

Purina Walk for Dog Guides – assist with organization both before and on actual Walk Day.
