Birdie is the definition of a sweetheart! This affectionate, cuddly girl absolutely adores her people and
will happily curl up beside you for hours, soaking in all the love she can get. She has a gentle, submissive
nature and such a warm, tender heart that it’s impossible not to fall for her. Birdie gets along
wonderfully with other dogs and would likely thrive with a confident canine companion who can help
show her the ropes and remind her that the world isn’t such a scary place.
Due to Birdie being so sensitive, there are a few areas where she’s still building confidence. In the past,
something as simple as putting on her collar could feel overwhelming; she would see it and back away
unsure. She can also be nervous with body handling, primarily in a veterinary setting. Birdie will need an
adopter who is patient and committed to helping her feel safe, including taking her for “happy visits” to
the vet to build positive associations. Nail trims are another challenge for her, though she has made
great progress using a scratch board to help keep her nails at a comfortable length.
At home, Birdie is happiest when she’s close to her people, enjoying quiet companionship and plenty of
cuddles. She does have a history of ingesting items she shouldn’t, so supervision and thoughtful
management of her environment will be important to keep her safe. Birdie does really well in her crate,
and this is a great tool to ensure she is safe when home alone.
With time, patience, and understanding, Birdie truly blossoms. Her loving nature and deep devotion
make every bit of effort worthwhile, and she’s ready to find a home that will help her continue to grow
into the confident, happy dog she’s meant to be
