Rico is a big-hearted, affectionate boy who’s ready to bring a lot of love (and personality!) into his future
home. He thrives on being close to his people and is happiest when he can lean in for cuddles or simply
hang out by your side. Rico is an active dog who would love an adventurous family to take him out
exploring, whether that’s long walks, hikes, or new places to sniff and discover.
Rico also has an excellent nose and truly enjoys using it. He would thrive in a home that can offer
enrichment activities like scent games or puzzle toys to keep his mind busy. He generally walks well on
leash, though he can be strong and may pull toward something that catches his eye. With consistency
and ongoing training, his leash manners should continue to improve. Rico gets along well with other
dogs but is also quite happy entertaining himself with his toys.
Rico does have some behaviours that his future family should be prepared to manage. He doesn’t do
well in a crate, especially when there is activity around him. He will bark loudly to let you know he’s
unhappy. While he may settle once things quiet down or if no one is home, he would do best in a home
where someone is around often or where time can be invested in creating a safe environment for him
when left alone in the house. Around the home, Rico can also be a bit cheeky. If he’s bored, he may go
looking for his own fun by picking up and stealing items.
When Rico wants something you have, he can be quite determined. He may jump up to try and grab
items from your hand, and if he’s successful, it can quickly turn into an exciting game of chase for him. In
the past, he has also become a bit mouthy in these moments. If he goes to get something but catches
your hand or arm by mistake, it can hurt so it’s important to be paying attention to him. As a large,
enthusiastic dog, he will need clear boundaries and consistency to help him learn more appropriate
ways to interact.
With the right structure, patience, and outlets for his energy, Rico has so much to offer. He’s a loving,
fun companion who will thrive in a home committed to guiding him and embracing all of his personality
