Providing Dog Guides to Canadians with Disabilities
Autism Assistance

Autism Assistance Dog Guides help children between 3 and 12 who are on the autism spectrum. These Dog Guides provide safety, companionship, and unconditional love. They offer a calming relief for children in high anxiety situations, and reduce the stress commonly experienced in public places.

Please Note

Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides has been providing Autism Assistance Dog Guides to Canadian families at no cost since 2009. Due to the success of the program there is a rising need from families across the country, and Lions Foundation is working to increase its capacity to meet this need. However, due to the high volume of applicants Lions Foundation is not currently accepting new application requests for the Autism Assistance Dog Guide Program. Lions Foundation is committed to properly serving the families currently on our wait list in a timely manner.   Our six other Dog Guide programs remain open to new applications.

For a list of other accredited providers of autism service dogs, please visit Assistance Dogs International.

Applications will reopen as soon as the needs of the current waitlist are met. Please refer to this page for changes to the status of the Autism Assistance Dog Guides program application.
