Providing Dog Guides to Canadians with Disabilities
Autism Assistance
With autism becoming an increasingly prevalent disability, Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides implemented its fifth program in 2009. Autism Assistance Dog Guides help families and children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder.

Helping children aged 3 to 12 years of age, Autism Assistance Dog Guides provide safety, companionship and unconditional love. These Dog Guides provide a calming relief for children in high anxiety situations and reduce the stress commonly experienced in public places.

The bond that develops between the Dog Guide and child allows for increased social interaction for the family and the child.

Please Note
Due to the success of the program, there is a rising need from families across the country, and Lions Foundation is working to increase its capacity to meet this need. However, due to the high volume of applicants, Lions Foundation is not currently accepting new application requests for the Autism Assistance Dog Guide Program. Lions Foundation is committed to properly serving the families currently on its wait list in a timely manner. Our five other Dog Guide programs remain open to new applications.

For a list of other accredited providers of autism service dogs, please visit Assistance Dogs International.

Applications will reopen as soon as the needs of the current waitlist are met. Please refer to this page for changes to the status of the Autism Assistance Dog Guides program application.
